Intel introduces new multi-function FPGAs for the industrial and automotive markets

To support the growing number of Internet of Things (IoT) applications, Intel today announced the Intel Cyclone 10 Series Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA). The series is designed to provide fast, energy-efficient processing capabilities that can be used in a wide range of fields including automotive, industrial automation, professional audiovisual and visual systems.

Data processing becomes increasingly difficult as the “all things” have a higher level of interconnection and can share large amounts of real-time data with each other. Information on sensors and cameras in buildings, factories, homes and vehicles is increasing, and microprocessors or microcontrollers are no longer able to process this information alone.

Intel FPGA and other high-performance processing equipment to collect and send data, according to the input of Internet of things equipment to make real-time decision-making. FPGAs can be programmed to provide specific computing and functionality for different networking applications. ar65127198

Cyclone® 10 FPGAs and Cyclone ™ 10 LP-have their unique features that meet the needs of the design team.

Unlike other low-cost FPGAs, Cyclone 10 GX supports 10G transceivers and hard floating-point digital signal processing (DSP). Compared to the previous generation Cyclone, it can improve performance by 2 times. With architecture innovations, digital signal processing modules that support IEEE 754 single-precision hardened floating-point operations support processing rates up to 134GFLO (gigabit floating-point operands per second). This is important for engineers who use FPGAs to perform applications such as motion or motor control systems with higher performance.

The Intel Cyclone 10 GX market includes a market that focuses on high performance I / O and core speed. Areas of use include industrial machine vision and smart city applications to support the monitoring of parking lots, roads and bridges. Cyclone 10 GX is also well suited for supporting professional audio-visual technologies such as video streaming applications.

The motor drive system occupies more than two-thirds of the industrial energy consumption, and its energy-saving operation is critical to the intelligent plant. Cyclone 10 GX FPGAs help save the cost of systems such as motors and drives, powertrain, computer numerical control (CNC), machine tools and robots. 74hc596

By using Cyclone 10 GX and other FPGAs, operators can significantly reduce the total cost of ownership in the entire product line. For example, operators can use Cyclone 10 GX to integrate industrial networks and functional security into a single chip, thereby reducing bill of materials costs.

Intel is the industry’s first FPGA vendor to acquire IEC 61508 devices and tools to help developers more easily meet industry mechanical safety standards when using Cyclone 10 GX and Cyclone 10 LP development.

Intel Cyclone 10 LP is the ideal solution for cost and power consumption as a key element in design decisions. These systems use FPGA density is usually less than 75K LE, FPGA is usually used for chip-to-chip bridge, or microprocessor I / O expansion.

Cyclone 10 LP can also be used in automotive video processing applications for rearview cameras and sensors, through the car to collect a number of sensors when the vehicle driving data, to help a more comprehensive understanding of vehicle traffic.

Cyclone 10 FPGA series together with the evaluation kit, development board, the latest version of Quartus programming software, will be shipped in the second half of 2017.
