Samsung RCS intent to acquire significant or to develop class Apple imessage application

SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) – Samsung Electronics (Nasdaq: SAMS) today announced it has acquired NewNet Communications (RCS), a Canadian-based company that may be developing its own RCS standard messaging applications. One such application is Apple’s iMessage.

Samsung’s previous mobile messaging application, Chaton, had a large number of users in a period of time, but in the end in front of competitors eclipsed. After the acquisition of NewNet, Samsung may consider re-development of a chat platform. Interestingly, Samsung’s interest may not be for Galaxy users to develop proprietary messaging applications, but the development can be widely used, and perhaps cross-platform applications.
